VitalQIP from Lucent is the top IP (Internet Protocol) management system in the world that supports Domain Name System (DNS) management, IP networks and network categories, and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol )DHCP) servers.
VitalQIP supports an entire outlook of the client IP network with separation ability as a network, network category, domain, DNS server, DHCP server or by a user-defined hierarchy. The VitalQIP supports a variety of user interfaces from Windows 95/98/NT/2000 to Motif, as well as Web management interface with safe access; allows network managers to allocate addresses and issue reports (on conditions they have a safe password that enables passing through the firewall). The software operates under a range of operation systems: Windows NT/2000, Solaris, HP-UX and AIX. In addition, VitalQIP does not support only Lucent DNS/DHCP servers, but also IBM and Microsoft NT/2000 servers.

The VitalQIP design concept
The VitalQIP design concept is the option to manage networks with a few thousand to millions of IP destinations. VitalQIP can allocate and manage addresses in all the remote websites, update the central systems of the address allocations, and supply various reports about address activity. Most of the computer systems existing today are based on IP addresses, something that requires professional and central IP resource management, i.e. applying DDNS regimes (deciphering between the computer name and its address in the network without the need for prior registration) and DHCP (giving the network configuration of a certain computer from a central place, and in this way, avoid the need to approach a specific computer in order to change its network definitions).

Address distribution in the network performed manually and without any computerized control exposes the organization to mistakes and their outcome (crashes, discrepancies, etc.). In spite of the fact that various operating systems (like UNIX and NT) provide some of the services required to manage IP resources, they are incomplete. These services are in fact a bonus to the operating system and as such, they are not products in themselves and their standard is accordingly. When using such tools, there is not open address database that allows receiving reports, queries or backups. In addition, using a central tool from a certain company causes discrepancies in work with other systems (like NT with UNIX, etc.).

VitalQIP confirms all addresses in the network according to permanent times. It will perform PING, confirm DNS, corroborate with the management system and present its conclusions to the network manager in comparison to the database
Applicative interface
VitalQIP has a wide API package which can interface with other systems in order to fulfill specific requirements. Web interface: A web interface with safe entry allows network managers to allocate addresses and issue reports (on condition they have a safe password which allows passing through the firewall).
SQL database
The network details are recorded in a database (eg. SYBASE, Oracle SQL) and not in files as is customary in those services where they are operating system accessories. This is a very important element in the system’s reliability, backup ability, research, reports, and more.
Backup server
The system allows defining the server to perform automatic backup. If the central address server crashes, the backup server starts up with updated information without the network manager’s intervention, so that the organization is not paralyzed as a result of a server crash. This characteristic does not exist in operating system services.
User-friendly graphic interface
Together with easy management, the interface constitutes a great advantage over the competitors. The interface’s user-friendliness prevents unnecessary knowledge center creation.
